Hiking Time: 3–5 hours

Your adventure begins with a morning drive from Moshi to Lemosho Gate, where you will complete park registration before continuing to the trailhead. After meeting your mountain crew and final preparations, your trek officially begins through the lush rainforest of Kilimanjaro's western slopes. The trail is peaceful and shaded by towering trees, creating the perfect environment for a gentle first day on the mountain. Along the way, you may spot black-and-white colobus monkeys and a variety of colorful bird species. Your guides will set a comfortable pace, allowing your body to begin adjusting to the altitude. Hiking Time: 5–6 hours

After breakfast, leave the rainforest behind as the landscape gradually opens into heath and moorland. The trail climbs steadily across rolling hills covered with giant heather and volcanic formations, offering increasingly impressive views of Mount Kilimanjaro. As you approach the vast Shira Plateau, the scenery becomes more dramatic and the air noticeably cooler. This is one of the longest trekking days, but the gradual ascent helps your body continue acclimatizing. Upon reaching Shira 2 Camp, you'll enjoy spectacular views across the plateau while your guides check everyone's condition before dinner and overnight.

Shira 2 Camp (3,850 m) to Barranco Camp (3,960 m) via Lava Tower (4,630 m)

Distance: 11km

Hiking Time: 7–9 hours

Today is one of the most important days for acclimatization. After breakfast, you will gradually climb toward Lava Tower at 4,630 meters, following the famous "climb high, sleep low" principle. Depending on the group's pace, lunch will either be served at Lava Tower or along the trail. As you gain altitude, the landscape transforms into an alpine desert with dramatic volcanic rock formations. After spending time at Lava Tower, you will descend to Barranco Camp, allowing your body to adapt more effectively to the higher elevation. The camp is surrounded by giant senecio plants and sits beneath the impressive Barranco Wall, making it one of the most scenic camps on the mountain.

Although it looks steep from below, it is a straightforward scramble with guidance from your experienced mountain guides. From the top, you'll enjoy wide views of Kibo Peak, valleys, and the surrounding alpine landscape. The trail then continues across ridges and valleys before arriving at Karanga Camp. After lunch, you'll have time to relax, rehydrate, and prepare for the higher elevations ahead before enjoying dinner and another overnight stay on the mountain.

Hiking Time: 3–4 hours

After breakfast, continue your ascent across rocky alpine terrain toward Barafu Camp, the final base camp before your summit attempt. Although the hiking distance is relatively short, the higher altitude makes the climb more demanding. Upon arrival, enjoy a hot lunch before organizing your summit gear with the help of your guides. During the afternoon, your lead guide will provide a detailed summit briefing, explaining what to expect during the midnight ascent. After an early dinner, you'll rest for a few hours before being awakened for the final climb to Africa's highest point.

Your summit adventure begins shortly after midnight. After tea, coffee, light snacks, and a final equipment check, you will start the climb under a sky filled with stars. Moving slowly and steadily, you'll make your way toward Stella Point (5,756 m), arriving in time to witness a spectacular sunrise over Africa. From there, continue along the crater rim to Uhuru Peak (5,895 m), the highest point on Mount Kilimanjaro and the African continent. After celebrating, taking photographs, and enjoying the moment, descend carefully back to Barafu Camp for a short rest and hot meal before continuing down to Mweka Camp. This is the longest and most rewarding day of the entire climb.
